I was hesitant to post this until things started going better! And we have had 2-3 good nights where everyone has slept and stayed in their bed! So here we go! We have moved Walker to a big boy bed! Such a big milestone! One we put off for him for so long because he slept so well in the crib plus we all had peace of mind and sleep too. But he started asking for a big bed the last couple of months. He outgrew the pack and play and a long time ago when we travel so we knew he was capable of sleeping in a big bed. So we decided that we would transition him to a big bed at the end of the summer so we could avoid losing any sleep during these tiresome summer days! But my mom has hurt her back and is planning on keeping the kids in a few weeks and we knew that lifting him in and out of the crib will be hard if not impossible so we went ahead and made the switch so he would have time to adjust.
He is adjusting. It is just taking a little time. The first nights were rough. One night he didn't go down well. Kept getting up. Then another night he was up from 12-3 AM calling for me constantly and screaming and crying. I finally caved and got in the bed with him at 3 and he went to sleep. After that we put a gate in his door so he's not coming up and down the stairs which is scary and we locked the bathroom door so he can't go through Elle's room. We also let him know that if he called for us that we would be sleeping and would not come and then we threw in a bribe of frozen yogurt! All that worked and we have had two good nights. It has helped that the last two nights he has been worn out from summer fun so he has slept hard and late.
As far as his actual bed went we decided to go ahead and give him our old guest mattress which is a queen rather than doing a twin bed. More room and much more comfortable not to mention gives guests a place to sleep if we get him adjusted. With bedding I wanted to use all the stuff that was already in his room like the curtains and rug so I pieced together bedding from Pottery Barn and Tuesday Morning. Then we are going to order one of Kenny's headboards soon for him! As we are moving through this transition I am so happy for him because he is so happy about being a big boy and I am happy he is getting a little older and mature but of course sad at the same time! We love him so!
Last night in his crib!
Good night my sweet baby boy!
Kenny taking apart the crib. This made me cry. I remember him putting it together for both Elle and Walker. And while we haven't gotten rid of it. (We put it in the attic for now.) We have zero plans of needing it again. End of a season for Kenny and me and our family.
The first night when he kept coming down and wouldn't stay in the bed.
Finally found him asleep like this!
The next day his cute sheets from Pottery Barn came in.
Asleep in his big boy bed.
