HEARTBREAKING NEWS FOR ALL DIRTY DANCERS

A lot of news outlets are reporting today that Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and only has a few weeks to live. For any girl this is awful news. What girl has not watched Dirty Dancing over and over. Even Kenny knows that the famous quote "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" is coined from the movie Dirty Dancing. I remember being little and my mom not allowing me to watch Dirty Dancing but I stole the soundtrack from my mom ( on cassette tape mind you) and listened to it on my walkman all the time.

And don't forget about Ghost. The famous pottery wheel scene. So good! I still get teary eyed. And don't all boys love Swayze in Roadhouse. Maybe not but I thought they did. I could be wrong. But Patrick Swayze has a special place in America's heart and in movie history. If and when something happens to him he will be missed.

I WANT A ROYAL FAMILY

Last night before we started the movie Gone Baby Gone (which was awesome) Kenny turned the channel to this 20/20 special that was on that was called The Royal Family:Behind the Palace Walls. And I just have to tell you how interesting this show was. It followed the Queen and the Royal Family for a year and had more of a documentary style of filming. I just finished watching the rest of it while I was at home for lunch. And I am so jealous. I wish we had a royal family. I know it sounds silly but the first family(is that what you call them?) is not the same.

I think the history and tradition behind the royal family is so intriguing. This show featured all sorts aspects of how things are done for the queen and the family and how the household and their property is run.  They went behind the scenes to show us how an official dinner is prepared for, how the family jewels are kept, or how an outing that the Queen is going to make is planned.

The show featured the visit that she made to the United States this past year when she attended the Kentucky Derby and they filmed the White House all the preparations that were done for her arrival. It was funny because they showed a hotel in Virginia that the Queen was going to be staying in and they had gotten a brand new toilet for the room because they felt she deserved a new toilet.

" And then there are these two to think about.  Could not mention the Royal Family without these two.  Is it just me or is Harry getting way cuter than William.  Especially with this whole secret bravery thing Harry has got going on with sneaking into Afghanistan. I am loving the coat tails. Not something we see too much here.

PEDIGREE! I BEG YOU!

Every morning my routine is to wake up, take a shower and then when I get out of the shower I turn on the Channel 5 news which leads into the Today show at 7:00. I love the Today show. I watch the news while I get ready for work. But for the past few weeks every morning I hear the same music and the same man's voice come on. Its a Pedigree commercial. And then I am sad.

Let me preface this little spill by saying that I think that what Pedigree is doing is really amazing. They are one of the most well know companies for dog food and they are really fighting for these animals that everyone loves. If you don't know, Pedigree has a huge campaign going right now called Pedigree Adoption Drive. Their whole premise is they encourage anybody who is thinking about adopting a shelter dog to go to their website and get the facts. Because nothing makes them happier than when a "shelter dog" simply becomes a "dog." Please if you have time go to their website. They have done a great job with it. Maybe it will inspire someone to help.

BUT WHY MUST THEY TORTURE ME!

Have you seen these commercials. I want to cry everytime I see one. And now they are releasing new ones. Just sitting here writing about them makes my heart hurt. The one I saw yesterday was this adorable dog rolling around in this nice house. And the man comes and says "The Smiths got a new condo, but they don't take dogs." And then flash.......adorable dog in a cage at the shelter. OH MY GOD!

Or about the story of Echo. You have to go to the sight and watch this commercial. It will make you want to go adopt a dog right now. Isn't he cute. They show him all alone in his little cage and then he hears people coming so he gets up and gets all excited. And the people just walk right by him. And then the man says " For every dog that gets adopted......one doesn't." Uuuuuugh!

I know that these commercials get people's attention the most. And obviously it is something that resonates with people who love dogs. But I do not know how much more I can take!

THAT IS JUST SAD

MSNBC reported today that a radical church group has plans to protest and picket at Heath Ledger's funeral because he played a gay man in his Oscar nominated performance in Brokeback Mountain.

A member of the group was quoted “You cannot live in defiance of God. He (Ledger) got on that big screen with a big, fat message: God is a liar and it's OK to be gay,” said Shirley Phelps in a statement sent out by the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church.

Now I am not going to get on my high horse or even get into what I believe is right or wrong. But I think that it is so incredibly sad that these people would not have enough respect for his family including his two year old daughter, his friends, and him as a human being to let him peacefully be laid to rest. The circumstances of his death are already so unexpected and sad. I can't imagine how heartbreaking this news is for them.

OH PLEASE!

I know I write about television a lot but I am just do disgusted by a television show that I caught some of last night that I have to vent. So just bear with me. It came on Bravo, which normally has some really great shows. The show was called Millionaire Matchmaker. It caters to men who of course are millionaires. There is a $10,000-$150,000 joining fee. (WHAT!!!!) This lady,Patti meets with the men to find out what type of lady they are looking for. Here is where it just gets ridiculous. She meets with this one guy and she asks him what type of girl are you looking for. What does he say..... a smart funny girl who is driven and would like a family. NO!!!! He says a gorgeous girl that looks like Paris Hilton! He then goes on to list physical features that he prefers. Last time I checked those are NOT great qualifications to base a long term relationship or a marriage on. So Patti then turns to her database full of desperate women who have submitted their pictures because obviously they all just want sugar daddies and finds the girl best suited for him. Now granted a lot of these woman are really pretty but the whole thing just screams filth. Patti has a whole staff of people that work for this business and claims to have made 300 marriages and 400 people in relationships. The whole thing just gave me the heebie jeebies!

LETS HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS

Some of Kenny's friends got together and planned a little gathering to watch the National Championship game last night. They were so organized and had cooked and ordered a lot of food for everyone. It was all really good and the game stayed pretty interesting too. LSU defeated Ohio 38-24. As much as I love to hate LSU I still like seeing the SEC win a national championship!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

My mom got us this amazing Walter Anderson print for our bedroom. Walter Anderson is a very well know artist from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. And I really enjoy his work. I helped choose the print in Hattiesburg, and we had a friend of my mom's who is an artist named Kim Garroway paint it.I am so pleased at how it turned out and was so happy to open it Christmas Day. These pictures do not even do justice to how good it really looks in our room. Thanks Mom! It looks great!
